Good oral hygiene isn’t only important for a bright smile. It can also impact on your overall health and wellbeing.

At the Dental Centre, our team places a strong emphasis on prevention and oral hygiene education. We advise patient of all ages on the best ways to look after their teeth and gums, to help lower their risk of decay, gum disease, bad breath and related health issues.

Keeping up with your schedules dental visits is also part of a good oral hygiene routine. We recommend that patients visit us every 6 months for a comprehensive checkup and clean, but the ideal visiting frequency depends on each patients individual needs.

When you attend for your hygiene appointment, this will involve three stages:

  1. Oral health assessment and General Checkup. Your dentist will inspect your mouth, teeth and gums to look for any problems. We may or may not take digital x rays to aid us in finding any problems
  2. Professional Teeth Cleaning. Your Oral Health Therapist or Dental Hygienist will remove all the plaque, staining and tartar (calculus) from your teeth, leaving your teeth as clean as possible
  3. Fluoride Treatment. Finally, we apply fluoride to your teeth to help strengthen the enamel and provide a first line of defence against decay. This also will assist in any sensitivity you may experience with your teeth
